An Inside Look at Coach Chris

I believe you and I are very similar. Why do I say that? We all want to look good and feel good, however, the time needed to invest at the gym for those washboard abs or to look like Arnold Schwarzeneggar isn’t realistic. We all have families and friends that consume our time (in a good way of course!!), we’re busy with work and extra time is hard to come by. What I want is to be fit and strong and to not injure myself or ache for days after simple activities. I want to be able to go serve and do it with ease. I want to be able to run around and play with my kids, not sit on the sidelines trying to catch my breath. I want to enjoy food and not be restricted by diets. I don’t just want see my kids get married; I want to dance at my grandkids weddings. I want to be the old guy who is out and active not confined to a “home.” I believe this is what all of us want. But the thing is, you cannot do these things just by positive thinking or simply wanting them. It requires stewardship on our part. The good news is it’s closer than you think.

You’ve heard me say it before, health consists of three things: eating right, moving right and thinking right, all of which support a healthy nervous system. It really is simple but not always easy to make happen. I want to share with you what I do because I want you to see that a healthy lifestyle isn’t some grand extraordinary unachievable thing, it really is simple.

My workouts are fast and effective, no more than 30 minutes, 3-4 times a week. I’ve been under Corrective Chiropractic Care and adjusted once a week for 7 years, not because of pain, but because if your spine is misaligned your health is literally being choked away. My diet is simple. If God made it, I eat it 80% of the time. The other 20% I eat what I want guilt and shame free. That’s pretty simple right? Lastly, I line my life up with what the Bible says because when you live contrary to what it teaches and choose to harbor things like bitterness, unforgiveness, shame, worry, etc, those things will literally eat away at your health from the inside. That’s why you see the health nut drop dead from cancer or heart disease; they were missing the most important component.

My ways aren’t perfect. There are people who know more than me, eat better than me, exercise harder than me. They’re chiseled to perfection and should probably have a statue made of them or something. What I do know is that what I do is simple, attainable and effective and as I learn more, these habits continue to get simpler and more effective. Just because you choose these healthy habits doesn’t mean you’ll become invincible and immune to getting sick or injuring yourself. What it does mean is that your body will become stronger and able to withstand and recover from the effects of daily living.

Have you seen the generation of youth these days? They eat garbage, constantly stare at TVs and computers, and they’re always looking down at their cell phones. Their nervous system is compromised, you can see it in their posture, and their lives are literally being choked away. Statistically, the generation under 18 years old is predicted to die before their parents. That’s disgusting. They’re sick, fat and off vision for their life. I spoke to someone a couple weeks ago who used his age as an excuse for stiff joints and everyday activities getting harder. I suppose being in your 20’s is old. On the other hand, I spoke with another person who just turned 33 and he said he feels better than he did at 23. What’s the difference? It’s choosing to live your life one way instead of how everyone else does because everyone else keeps dying of cancer or heart disease in their 40‘s and 50’s.

Being completely open and transparent about my own health, this is where I’m at - there is one thing I know I’m not effectively dealing in my life and that’s stress. I can see it on my skin. I need to learn to better deal with it because those effects go much deeper than my skin and can have hazardous effects. Otherwise, my immune system is very strong. I rarely get sick. In fact, I don’t remember the last time. If I do feel rundown my body heats up or I’ll have a runny nose for no more than 24 hours and then be 100% again. Physically my body is strong, doesn’t hurt after rigorous activity, can fight off viruses and is always ready for more. That’s normal.

Again, being fit doesn’t mean you’re invincible. I know I’m not superman even though my newest workout shirt says otherwise. A few weeks ago I had the worst weightlifting injury I’ve ever had. I was distracted, lost my form, and pop!! My low back was majorly out, I could barely move and it was excruciating. This was the “I cannot get up on my own” type of injury. Less than a week later I was back to 99%, just needed to be careful not to overdo it. I’ve had injuries years back like most people have experienced. I would pull that muscle in my mid/low back just to the left of my spine. You know the one. This seemed to happen from the silliest things and would take weeks to heal yet this injury, which has been my worst to date, took only days to heal. To add to this experience, two weeks after my worst lifting injury, when I should be taking it easy still, I’m helping my family with the foundation of a home. Hours of shoveling and wheeling drain rock and dirt which all puts huge strain on the low back. How do I feel the next day? Great! I started writing this blog post and my back isn't sore, my arms aren’t sore, my legs aren’t sore. My hands ARE sore. (I’m not used to holding a shovel, wheel barrow and lifting heavy things for hours, not even for an hour.)

There’s a saying, “Some people spend all their health to get wealth. Then they spend all their wealth to get their health back.” Unfortunately, too many people don’t get to “spend all their wealth.” Did you know the first sign of heart disease is dying of a heart attack!?! That means there’s nothing you can do at that point to save your own life. What bothers me is when people wait until they have the cancer or heart disease to do something about it. The best thing any of us can do for our family is be proactive in our health because when you’re sick in bed you’re not much use to anyone. Your relationships suffer, your income suffers and you’re losing years off your life and that effects everyone around you.

I want families to experience life more abundantly by teaching them how they can live fully alive as simply as possible. Did you know you can effectively workout a single muscle group in 4 minutes? Do multiple muscle groups and cardio in just 12 minutes? Health is closer than you think. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Check out my website. What I do works, I know that because I never post anything that I haven’t first done myself. Contact me and we’ll start simple. We can use the equipment you have at home already and make an effective routine that’s only 20 minutes, 3 times a week. I want to share my expertise and experience with you, it’s worth the investment. Follow me on Facebook and Instagram, keep up to date with new workouts and motivation. And most importantly, share this post with your friends and family because everyone is CREATEDTOMOVE.

Arnold's Blueprint

If anyone knows what it takes to become a world champion it’s Arnold Schwarzenegger. So far he’s been a bodybuilder, actor, director, producer, businessman, investor and politician. He isn't just pretty good at those things either, he's dominated the competition and is considered one of the most successful people ever.

I came across this video on "ESPN: 30 for 30" films. It's 12 minutes that has inspired and challenged me. Every one of us has goals and dreams, the only difference between us as individuals is that some of us take our eyes off the dream which literally kills us. After all, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick." Then there are others who press into the dream regardless of how painful, lonely and costly it can be and they are some of the happiest, healthiest people in the world.

Each person’s dream is different and requires us to do things in order for it become a reality. So whatever your dream is - it matters. My dream is that families experience life fully alive together for a very long time and I’ll do whatever it takes for that to happen. My wife wants to be the best at home mom she can be to take care of our family. My dream is no greater or lesser than hers, it’s just different.

What if someone tells you your dream sucks? Or that it’s never going to happen? What if those who’s opinions matter most to you reject the very thing that means so much to you? Will you still move forward? What if that has already happened to you? It’s harder living in the regret of not pursuing your dream isn’t it? But it’s not too late. There is hope.

I want to know what your dream is ... What is that thing that you could do every day for the rest of your life even if you never made a penny from it? How have you been pursuing it? When you watch this short video you’ll see that Arnold went through HUGE struggles in order to make his dream a reality. What road blocks have come up against in your own life? What’s discouraging you? What’s inspiring you? How can you relate to what Arnold went through? What's the next step towards you dream?
